We need to see some kind of ID document that verifies that your age is over 18 years old. That is the proof.

1) "ID card" is meant to cover all kinds of somewhat official ID documents that we can accept. It doesn't need to be a national ID card, which obviously doesn't exist in all countries (here in Germany, there is one). Passport and driver's license are the next most-used kinds of documents, but there are also other examples we have accepted in the past. E.g. birth certificates, student IDs, or ID cards from local/county officials.
IDs from commercial and private firms are usually not acceptable, like an insurance card or public transport personalized ticket, or medical system ID.
They just need to show a) the real name and b) the date of birth.
2) Yes, you can blank out parts of your ID.
E.g. you can blank out all kinds of numbers, or a photo etc.
The only necessary elements we need to see are the DOB AND the true name. Unfortunately we cannot do without the last one, because we need to make sure that, in case of an examination by youth protection law officials, we can prove that we only marked accounts as "adult" where a real person with a true name exists, showing that by giving that name in our data sheet.
If an adult verification under these conditions is not an option for you, because your worries about identity theft are too strong, then that's okay; we are sorry, but we cannot change our policy in that regard. In that case, we know that it's possible to have a lot of fun at our site even without the adult sections, and we hope that you will think so, too ^^
